ENNOVA Installs Ecological Monitoring Sensors at SGC Krasnoyarsk Power Plants

        27 December 2021
        News

In 2021, Krasnoyarsk became the first city where the Siberian Generating Company began to publish data on CHP plants emissions online. The SGC press service spotlights how our specialists installed and commissioned online environmental control systems at three thermal power plants.

         Five elements - each second

Starting from December 2021, the data from all three Krasnoyarsk CHP plants can be seen by everybody in a special section of the SGK website. The diagrams show the measurements for five substances: nitrogen oxides and nitrogen dioxides, sulphur dioxides, carbon monoxide and particulate matter.

Eco-monitoring equipment at the thermal power plants was installed by ENNOVA engineers from Novosibirsk. Emissions from the Krasnoyarsk CHP plants are measured every minute by sensors fixed at a height of 85-105 meters. Samples are taken directly from the stacks via special openings. The system then averages the information to twenty minute data and publishes the data for a shared access.

The engineers from Novosibirsk installed the necessary equipment at the Krasnoyarsk thermal power plants in 2020-2021. To achieve this, a team of 20 specialists worked in Krasnoyarsk. The work at each of the three thermal power plants took about 10 months.

After a month of trial operation, the serviceability of sensors at each power plant was confirmed by an independent expert examination.

         First calculations and then work.

The duration and painstaking efforts that the job required can be attributed to the complexity of the installed systems. The video from the manufacturer, Evrotechlab from St. Petersburg, explains how these systems are arranged:

The systems consist of four main stages: five sensors, gas flowmeter and gas intake device on the CHP stacks; sampling and cable lines from the ground to the sensors; flue gas analyzer; control point, where the information is processed on the server and displayed on the monitors in a digitized form.

The specialists worked according to the principle - measure thrice and cut once. Approximately one third of the total time of the work went to pre-design surveys, design engineering, and safety briefings.

"After all, installation of eco-monitoring sensors includes assembly of electrical devices, industrial rope access activities, and work with lifting facilities. We paid special attention to each of these areas while training our employees," said Yevgeny Kolesnikov, project manager from ENNOVA at the Krasnoyarsk CHP plants.

Each power plant always has its own features, such as location of operation facilities, height of the stacks. Therefore, at all plants, erection and installation team found new solutions, explaining their need to the representatives of the Siberian Generating Company.

         From Irkutsk to Cuba

Installation of eco-monitoring sensors is one of the focus areas of the Novosibirsk-based specialists. In 2015, they installed emission control equipment at the Karmanovskaya power plant in Bashkortostan on a turnkey basis. Similar projects at other thermal power plants in Russia added to the experience gained. For example, in 2018, ENNOVA upgraded a continuous emission monitoring system at the Reftinskaya TPP, the largest coal-fired TPP in Russia, which, in 2020, became part of the Siberian Generating Company. ENNOVA not only installs eco-monitoring equipment, but also is involved in various projects connected with new construction and upgrading.

"We have three focus areas of activity: design, commissioning, and "smart complete set arrangement." Each of these areas involves its own specialization. For example, in the Design and Engineering Division we have more than ten specialized departments," said Anton Milto, CEO of ENNOVA.

In 2020-2021, ENNOVA specialists participated in the following projects: Design engineering for the construction of the Primorskaya TPP (Kaliningrad region); Repair and recovery activities on the boiler of power unit No. 3 at the Berezovskaya power plant (Krasnoyarsk region); Design engineering for the technical upgrade of the Novo-Salavatskaya CHP plant (Republic of Bashkortostan). The company operates in different regions throughout Russia, as well as abroad, implementing the projects in foreign countries up to far away Cuba. The main scope of the company's activities, however, is connected with Siberia. At the Krasnoyarsk CHPP-1, the Novosibirsk-based installation personnel not only installed eco-monitoring sensors, but also participated in the construction and commissioning of a new 275 m smoke stack.
